Geelong
Company
IntroductionThe Black Griffins are devoted to the perpetuation of traditional archery in all its forms, the fostering of good shooting technique, traditional competitions and the appreciation of the historical and aesthetic aspects of traditional archery. All archers in the Black Griffins are members of the Leongatha Medieval Society. A group based in Leongatha, During the 100 year war against the French there was a contingent of Elite Welsh archers, the Black Archers of Llanstriant which fought alongside the famous Cheshire Archers, the body guard of the Prince of Wales (The Black Prince) . The Black Griffins are modeled after these archers. The emphasis of the Black Griffins is on the long bow and the ultimate, the great English war bow, but any traditional bow is welcome including Asiatic horse bows, modern laminated unaided recurves and longbows, hunting bows and self flat bows.
